Language

The Basque country has 2 official languages: Basque (called Euskera) and Spanish. Signage on roads, airports, official institutes and streets are most of the time in both languages.

Underground

The Metro Bilbao underground railway has 3 lines. Operating from 6:00 to 23:00, there are services with frequencies of six minutes or less at peak times during the day.
On Sundays and holidays there are ten minutes between services. A night service is also provided on Fridays until 2:00 and all night on Saturdays.

Parking

Parking in the streets of Bilbao is limited, with different colours marking different zones, each with its time limit and parking charges. Please look for the OTA/TAO signs. Bilbao has several underground car parks.

Trips from the airport to the city center take 20 minutes and cost approximately 30 euros.
Taxis usually allow clients to pay with a bank card; however, we suggest asking before getting in.

Shops

Shops usually open from Monday to Saturday from 10:00 am to 13:30/14:00 and from 17:00 to 20:00. Sunday closed.
The department stores, shopping centres and some big stores open at lunch time and until 21:00.
Department store in the city: El Corte Inglés on Gran Vía, 9 & Gran Vía, 20 (music, books, electronics).
